Wednesday April 24, 2019

The GAEL Board of Directors at its April 18 meeting chose Butts County Superintendent as the next GAEL Executive Director.  Costley has been at Butts County for eight years and prior to that was superintendent of Habersham County Schools for three years.  He has served as a middle school principal, high school assistant principal, and high school English teacher.  He graduated from Bowdon High School and later entered the U. S. Navy.  Following his military service he attended the University of West Georgia where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English and education and began teaching at Central High School in Carroll County.

While teaching he earned a MEd and EdS at Jacksonville State University.

He is known to his friends as Buddy and is married to Kelly who is a kindergarten teacher in Butts County.  They have three children. Their oldest son Sam will soon graduate from Georgia Tech and marry his high school sweetheart.  Their daughter Makenzi attends UGA and plays in the Redcoat Band.  Their youngest daughter Sophie will be a senior at Jackson High School next year.

Buddy will begin as GAEL Executive Director August 1 but you can expect to see him functioning the GAEL family at the GAEL Summer Conference.

We welcome Buddy Costley and his family to GAEL!
