Curtis Jones - 2019 National Superintendent of the Year
Wednesday February 20, 2019
AASA has announced that the 2019 National Superintendent of the Year is Georgia’s Curtis Jones, Superintendent of the Bibb County Schools.
Curtis Jones has made us all proud! Never have I known a more humble, dedicated servant of others than the distinguished Dr. Jones. Curtis Jones has done it all. He grew up in Griffin and made them all proud when was appointed to the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. Somewhere along the way he learned how to motivate those around him and inspire them to do things they never thought they could do. He served a 20 year distinguished military career and returned home to Griffin to lead the ROTC program at Griffin High School. That did not last long before he was asked to be principal of Griffin High where he did a fantastic job and was chosen superintendent of the Griffin Spalding County schools. He led a noble effort to make Griffin Spalding a high flying district. Curtis Jones is not afraid of the devil and asking him to accept the monumental challenges posed by Bibb County was an opportunity he could not pass up. The record speaks for itself as he has led the transformation of a high poverty district that was reeling from corruption and disarray. Naming him the National Superintendent of the Year only serves to verify the tremendous job he has done for Bibb County.
