Sandra Deal receives H.M. Fulbright Award and Dr. Brooks Coleman receives first Allene Magill Award
The 2018 GAEL Summer Conference was a roaring success with approximately 1350 persons of various descriptions attending the annual event. Two of the highlights of the conference came on Sunday afternoon with the presentation of the H. M. Fulbright Distinguished Service Award being presented to Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal. Ms. Deal is a retired Hall County teacher and has made a tremendous impact on education in Georgia over the past eight years with her leadership in literacy. The second highlight of Sunday afternoon was the presentation of the first Allene Magill Distinguished Public Service Award to Dr. Brooks Coleman. Coleman is a retired Gwinnett County educator (and past president of GAESP) who served in the Georgia General Assembly for 26 years, most of which was as Chair of the House Education Committee. His shepherding of education legislation and the efforts he made on behalf of Georgia teachers and children are a benchmark for those that follow him.
Congratulations to Ms. Deal and Dr. Coleman—they have made us all proud!!!
