The highly emotional and stressful 2016 version of the Georgia General Assembly has ended and Governor Nathan Deal has taken action on all of the bills adopted in 2016.  The Governor averages 8 vetoes per session, this year he rang the bell 16 times, the most visible of which were the religious freedom bill, HB 747, and the campus gun carry bill, HB 859.  Supporters of both bills including House Speaker David Ralston and Lt. Governor Casey Cagle have indicated that fresh versions of both bills will appear in the 2017 General Assembly.  Bills signed by the Governor become effective July 1, 2016.
