Jack Parish, Ed.D,
GAEL Executive Director

Jack Parish, Ed.D., serves as the GAEL Executive Director.  Dr. Parish is strongly committed to GAEL’s mission of improving public education in Georgia through high quality leadership development and advocacy.

Dr. Parish began his work in education as a teacher at Riverdale High School in the Clayton County School District.  After working at Riverdale High School for seven years, Dr. Parish made the decision to continue his professional career in Henry County where he was educated.  Dr. Parish spent twenty-two years in the Henry County School District serving the school system in the positions of assistant principal, principal, assistant personnel director, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and eight years as superintendent.

Upon his retirement from the Henry County School District in June 2008, Dr. Parish immediately joined the faculty of the College of Education at the University of Georgia.  As a faculty member in the Department of Lifelong Education, Administration & Policy, Dr. Parish has taught Master’s and Specialist degree courses and coordinated and supervised residency courses as part of the Ed.S. and Ed.D. performance-based programs in Educational Leadership.  Dr. Parish has also worked with the College of Education’s Program Evaluation Group on a number of evaluation projects.

Dr. Parish has been involved in State educational organizations for many years.  He is a past-president of the Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA).  He has also served as a member of the GAEL Board of Directors and the Georgia School Boards Association’s (GSBA) Superintendents’ Advisory Board.

Dr. Parish received his bachelors and masters degrees from Georgia State University.  He received his specialist degree from West Georgia College and his doctor of education degree from The University of Georgia.  He and his wife, Ashley, live in Athens with their dog, Sam.
